National doctors day celebration (history of the day, theme of the year and how to observe this day)
NATIONAL DOCTORS DAY
On March 30th each year, National Doctors Day honors the professionals for their dedication and contributions to society and the community. Their dedication puts the patient first time and again. On National Doctors Day, we say “thank you” to our physicians for all that they do for us and our loved ones.
Why is March 30 Doctor's Day?
Winder, Georgia, observed the first Doctors Day on March 30, 1933. Dr. Charles B. Almond's wife, Eudora Brown Almond, wanted to have a day to honor physicians. The community mailed greeting cards and placed flowers on the graves of deceased doctors on this first celebration in 1933.
Physicians play a pivotal role in safeguarding and improving the well-being of patients. Their extensive education, training and expertise are essential in diagnosing and treating a vast array of medical conditions.
Beyond their clinical roles, doctors contribute significantly to medical research, innovation and the continuous improvement of health care practices.
How to observe this day
Nowadays, the day is observed by healthcare organizations and medical institutions nationwide. Doctors are celebrated in a variety of ways, including receiving cards, gifts, and even red carnations from patients and colleagues, symbolizing the importance of the job.
Theme for Doctors Day 2025
This year's theme, “Behind the Mask: Who Heals the Healers?” invites us to look beyond physicians' dedication and resilience to recognize their need for support and care. Every day, doctors selflessly put their patients first, often at the expense of their own well-being.
