     The International Day of Sport for Development and Peace (IDSDP) is observed annually on April 6 worldwide to acknowledge the value of sports and physical activity in our personal lives and communities around the world.

Why do we celebrate International Day of sports for Development and peace?

     The adoption of this Day signifies the increasing recognition by the UN of the positive influence that sport can have on the advancement of human rights, and social and economic development.

How can sports be used for peace and development?

Sport's attributes make it a valuable component of broader, holistic approaches in reaching the eight MDG benchmarks with targets aimed at: (1) Eradicating extreme poverty and hunger,

 (2) Achieving universal primary education,

 (3) Promoting gender equality and empowering women, 

(4) Reducing child mortality

Theme of the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace 2025

     In 2025, in line with the theme “Levelling the Playing Field: Sport for Social Inclusion”, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) is demonstrating how sport contributes to advancing the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), thereby building more equal and inclusive societies.
