    The “High Five” is a sacred tradition that has been used to celebrate remarkable events in people’s day to day lives for many years.

Why do we celebrate National High Five Day?

     Many believe that the gesture was created by Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Glenn Burke when he high-fives teammate Dusty Baker after hitting a home run. Others claim it is the Louisville basketball team that started the high five. The third Thursday of April is recognized as National High Five Day.

What day is National High day?

    However, a more widely accepted narrative suggests that the high five was created by baseball players Dusty Baker and Glenn Burke in 1977. Legend has it that they celebrated a significant moment in a game on October 2 by clapping their hands together above their heads.

How do you celebrate the high five day?

     The high five is a hand gesture that occurs when two people simultaneously raise one hand each, about head-high, and push, slide, or slap the flat of their palm against the flat palm of the other person. The gesture is often preceded verbally by a phrase like “Gimme five!” or “High five!” 

Meaning of National High Five Day

     National High Five Day takes place on the third Thursday of each April and is as simple as it sounds -- a holiday about giving high fives and spreading good vibes.

Who invented high five day?

     In 2002, college students at the University of Virginia, Conor Lastowka (San Diego, CA), Sam Miotke (Corvallis, OR), and Wynn Walent (New York, NY) together created National High Five Day.
